She Never Gives Them Names - written 12/06/11
She’s trying to wrap herself around some idea she just came upon by imagining it walking her home from school… Household president, Daddy’s sleeping on the couch. She can sneak her thoughts upstairs where she makes up her own rules.
Oh, how a story can change when she lets them lie unfinished, when she never gives them names.
Every book on the shelf, she has touched just once. Read front to back without putting them down… Every line stored in herself, that she thinks she forgot. She recites them in dreams without making a sound.

All the tales a little girl needs all sort of start and all sort of end the same. It’s not up to you or me to tell her what to remember or to give her guidelines for her games.
Wednesday morning comes after tonight. Halfway through the week, she walks back to school with her new friend… There’s new chapters in the playground or while watching the boys fight or theres the chance she might not think of it again.
